Not every young person can return to a classroom, and not every widow can wait for one. For those who need to earn quickly, a trade learned properly, with the tools to practise it, is the most realistic route to an income.
We place trainees with established local artisans and training centres for practical apprenticeships in tailoring, catering, hairdressing, ICT, phone repair and craft work. Training is combined with basic business skills, so a finished apprentice knows how to price and find customers, not only how to work. On completion, each trainee receives a start-up tool kit — a sewing machine, a catering set, a hairdressing kit — and continued mentoring through her first year of trading.
