Who We Are

Charity with a clear purpose: enterprise for women, education for children

Pillars of Progress and Developmental Foundation is a charity-focused non-governmental organisation working with women, widows and less privileged households across Nigeria. Our work is deliberately concentrated in three places: helping a woman start a business she can run and keep, keeping a child in school when money runs short, and standing with a family in crisis.

We believe charity should restore dignity rather than create dependence. Every widow we support sets the direction of her own business; every child is supported through a school rather than around it; every household we help is treated as a household with capacity, not a case to be managed.

  • School fees, uniforms and learning materials for less privileged children
  • Food, medical and welfare support for families in crisis

Our Vision

A Nigeria where a widow can rebuild her livelihood with dignity, where no child's education ends for lack of money, and where communities care for their most vulnerable members.

Key Areas of Intervention

Where our work makes the greatest difference

Our work sits in three connected places: a widow's business, a child's classroom, and a household in crisis. Everything we do strengthens one of those three pillars.

Featured Programmes

Programmes built around a widow's livelihood and a child's schooling

Each programme is designed with the people it serves, delivered through local structures and reviewed openly, so that support reaches the households that need it most.

Our Impact

Progress we can measure — and stand behind

We report what has actually been delivered: businesses started, children kept in school, widows supported and families reached. Figures are published only once they have been verified.

0 Individuals empowered

0 Small businesses set up

Impact figures are shown as placeholders until they are verified and published by the foundation's programme team.

Why Our Work Matters

Widowhood should not decide a child's future

When a husband dies in Nigeria, his widow often loses more than a partner. She may lose income, the family home, the right to her husband's property and the support of his relatives, all while raising children alone. Many widows move into petty trading with no capital at all, and the first casualty is usually the children's schooling.

For a woman in that position, a small business is not a side income. It is the difference between her children staying in school and being sent home, between a rented room and the street. Helping a widow set up a business is one of the most direct ways to protect a whole household — and it costs far less than the consequences of doing nothing.

  • Support that reaches widows directly, with no intermediaries
  • Practical business assets rather than promises
  • Education support that keeps children in class
  • Accountable use of every resource entrusted to us
“After my husband died I was selling pepper on a tray. With a starter stock, a small shop and advice from other women, I can pay my children's school fees myself now.”

Partnership and Collaboration

Progress is built together

We work with corporate organisations, schools, faith and community associations, development partners and individual donors who want their giving to reach a real household — and to see where it went.

  • Sponsor a child's school year
  • Fund a widow's business starter pack
  • Volunteer skills, mentoring and expertise
  • Support a charity outreach in a community
